Michael Davies is a senior software engineer (BCompSc, UniMelb) with 15 years of commercial video games experience. Currently co-founder of Melbourne game developer Space Dust Studios, he has previously worked on AAA game franchises including Battlefield, Need For Speed, Tomb Raider, and Dead Space.
Polywarp is a minimal game by Michael Davies about rhythm and geometry. Match the polygon shapes before they reach the center of the screen to survive. Collect color schemes to transform the game into a psychedelic kaleidoscope as you progress through several stages of increasing difficulty. Headphones recommended.
Polywarp was an experiment; an attempt to make a game using nothing but procedurally-generated flat polygons. As a seasoned AAA software engineer, Michael understood that high-fidelity art styles are expensive to create. As a one-man team, he dreamed up the most minimal art style and gameplay concept to be an achievable goal over the short term. Once the concept was solidified, he created the game in four weeks using Unity.
